1950, our file (248) - 17, relative to an incident of this nature.

3. Investigation of unidentified serial objects is contiming
in this district, and copies of all future reports of such sightings

between the hours of 2220 and 2230,

AT LOS ALAMOS, NEW MEXICO
2, On 10 February 1950, Mr. Gem, scicrtict aioe,

" los Alamos, New Mexico, was interviewed and the following information oZttained:

Time and date of sighting - 2226 hrs, 9 Jan 1950
Point of observation = Sidewalk along westside of Chapel,
Los Alanos, New Mexico,
Wumber of objects =- one
What attracted attention to objec t = Brightness of object,
and happened to be facing right direction.
Color of object = Incandescent green
Size of object - Impossible to estimate,
Shape of object - Apparently oval. Left trail resulting in
sort of teardrop shave overall.
Apparent construction - Could not tell, Seemed to ve just a licht.
Distance from observer - Impossible to estimate,
e of elevation from horizon - Estimate 50 degrees when sighted,
degrees when lost sight.
Direction from observer - Estimate 280 degrees when sighted, 320
degrees when lost sight.
Direction of Flight — Same as above.
Tactics or maneuvers —- Straight flight
Evidence of trail or exhaust - Slight trail about as long as object
iteelf, resulting in sort of teardrop shpe overall.
Effects on clouds = No clouds,
Imminosity - Incandescent.
Apparent means of support - No apparent means.
Projections and/or indentations « None

Speed = Impossible to estimate, Was in sight about two (2) seconds.
Sound = None

Odor = None
Mime in sight - About two (2) seconds.
Manner of disappearance - Trees interfered with vision. -

3. On 10 February 1950, ir. @MMMMINP scienti ct ime,

Los Alamos, Wew Mexico, was interviewed and the following information obtained:

Time and date of sighting - Approximately 2220 hours 9 January 1950.
Point of observation = Southwest corner of Chapel, Los Alamos, N.™.
Number of objects = one

What attracted attention to object — Mr. Paul Sperling pointed it out.
Color of object = Bluish white

Size of object = No perceptible disk; appeared as a point

Shane of object - Pointed

Apparent construction - Imossible to determine.

than one-half second

Bffect on clouds - Not observed

Luminosity of object - Inminosity ereater than Vems at brightest

Apparent means of support - None

Speed - Ten degrees per second (estimate)

Sound =— None

Odor - None

Time in sight - About two (2) seconds

Manner of disappearance - Inminosity stopped rather suddenly,
although wes not obscured by Jamez Mountains on horizon,

4. On 25 Jamary 1950, Mr. , Scientist,
Los Alamos, New Mexicoo was interviewed and offered the
following information;

Time and date of sighting - Approximately 2225 hours 9 January 1950

Point of observation — Observed from slow moving car, at intersection
of Canyon Road and Daniel Drive, Los Alamos, N.HM.

Number of objects - one

What attracted attention to object - Brightness of object while
driving towards it

Color of object - Greenish-white .

Size of object - Mims 4 to minus 5 compared to Jupiter.

Shape of object - Round

Apparent construction - Unable to determine

Distance from observer - Estimote at least 100 miles away.

. Angle of elevation from horizon = 75 to 80 degrees above horizon
Direction from observer - Avproximately 300 degrees north of west,
Direction of flight — 300 degrees north of west, followed same pattern
Tactics or mancuvers - None, straight line of flight
Evidence of trail or exhaust - None
Effect on clouds - Wo clouds
luminosity of object - Mims 4 magnitude (3rd brightest to sun and

moon) (brightest star is only mims 2)
Apparent means of support - None
Projections - None
Speed - Approximately 25 degrees per second
Odor - None
Sound - None
Time in sight — Avproximately 3 seconds
Manner of disappearance - Behind horizon
Notes relative to observer - Completed one semester of astronomy in
college. Staff member in Uhémistry at Los Alenos, N.M. In POTTUR's

opinion this object was an extremely bright meteor,
