DETAILS;
1. This investigation, directed by the District Comiander, was
predicated upon letter from the Seattle Field Division, Federal Bureau
of Investigation, dated 17 August 1949, File 7105-0, in which was set
forth information volunteered to that office by ur.
to the effect that on 15 August 1949 in Seattle, /ashington, he had
sighted four (4) objects which he believed to be flying discs.
AT SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
Ze On 9 November 1949, itr. egy, 2 meil carrier,
» Seattle, Washington, was interviewed at his home
and stated in substance: On 15 August 1949, at approximately 1455
hours (Pacific Dayli,ht Time) he had just stepped off a bus and was
standing on the sidewalk along 19th Avenue Northeast about 100 feet
from the corner of East 65th Street. as he was sorting a hand full
of mail, he became conscious of the sound of airplanes and raised his
head to look for theme The planes making the nd5ise could not be
sighted, but as he was looking upward he spotted four scojects through
@ break in the clouds. They were flying in a "V" forsation with ,4
above and behind wee By this time the noise supposedly heard from
cOfiventional type aircraft could no longer be heard. The objects
appeared at avout a 40° angle of elevation above the horizon and were
far away and very high. SEPM served. the four objects about five
seconds as they passed from view behind the clouds, reappeared and then
finally vanished behind a solid overcast. They were silver in color
with a dark border; shaped like a flattened oval, having about a Sig
to 1 ratio of length to thickness; ‘large in size and apparently con-
structed of aluminum. The objects were flying good formation, straight
and Ievel ina “northerly direction. There was no evicence of exhaust,
no effect on clouds, no light other than the reflection of the sun on
the objects, and no apparent support or propulsion. No sound was heard,
and could only judge their speed as very fast. GQBBNUON has
worked for the United States Post Office Department for many years and
is presently workin; out of the University Branch Post Office in Seattle.
During the first World ar he was an Aviation |‘achinist ir the United
States Navy. Ue likes to hunt and fish, spending most of his free tine
outdoors. At the tine of sighting the objects, he was completing an
exceptionally easy work day and was not fatigued or under any strain.
The only perscn in the vicinity of the sighting was iiss Spe,
Northeast, Seattle, ashington, who, although having
her attention called to the objects, was unable to see anything.
SQM stated that the four objects could have been airplanes, as
they were a considerable distance from hin.
AGENTS NOTE: Mr. MMMM was quick to admit that the four
objects could have been airplanes and that he
is not familiar with the new types of jet air-
craft. Prior to sighting the odjects, Qa

had read an article in a national magazine about
"flying discs" His character and intelligence
would indicate that he is a sincere and reliable
individual, capable of describing anything exactly
as he saw it.
3. On 9 November 1949, Miss MMMM « student at the
University of Washington, aaeemeqesiemmst , Seattle, iiashington,
was interviewed at her home and stated in substance: aA few months ago,
during the morning hours, she had stepped off a bus and was walking
along 19th Avenue iiortheast toward her house when she noticed a small
Plane flying overhead. Immediately thereafter tne mailsan, whose route
she is on and who had also gotten off the bus, called to her to look
at the "flying discs". aA tree blocked her view in the direction she
was supposed to look and she was unable to see anything. She walked
as far as her house with the mailman, who did not appear to be overly
excited, but seemed to have a profound veneration for the preceding
episode.
