SUBJECT: Unusual object observed in the sky, 18 July 1949
TOs S=-2, 190lst AACS Squadron.
I saw a small round object and very high 0500 hours 16 July 1949, It
gave off a glitter or clesm as the ruflection of the sun rays hit it,
It was not moving but just lying in the same position constently. Its
reflection gave it a metalic look.

SUBJLCT: Unusual object observed in the sky. 18 July 1949
TOs S-2, 190lst AACS Squadron.
At approximately 0540 I sew a licht in the sky to the southwest, It
appesred at first glence to be =» star as it was considerably above the
horizon. It shown with ao yellowish white li¢ht with no twinkle whatso-
ever, After several glances every few minutes I looked at it through
field slesses, The light wes still yellowish white end wes perfectly
round with sbsolutely no twinkle, I wes convinced that it was not a star,
This object did not move, |
At 0425 efter observine the takeoff of on aircraft to the southwest
I lcokod at this object ecein rith field glasses, It appeared to be a
silvery colored object, perfectly round still reflecting a little licht.
At this time there was a band of light on the horizon to the northeast
before the sunrise, The sky to the southwest was still totally dark and
the object could be plainly observed with naked eys as perfectly round,
resembling a silver sphere,
A% eapproximately 0450 I called weather stetion and requested observer
to come up to the tower to take a look at it. Two men ceme up snd obser=
ved the object, Captain McCabe also came up approximately 5 minutes later
exd observed the object for arprroximately 20 minutes befors the haze end
rising sun obliterated it from view, During the time the object wes une
cer cbservation, sbout one and one half hours, the object did not move,
After first becoming curious I made a mark on she window with grease
pencil elimed with object and subsoquent observations used this mark
for orientation, The object was observed in the same place in refer=
ence to this mark until it was no longer visible de to haze end sun
rise, Captsin lcCebe estimated that the object mst be a great distence
avay snd at a height between 30 and 40 thousend feet. Weather observer

imate of distance not possible,
