SYNOPSIS
Reports of sighting of unidentified objects in New Orleans, La. on 15, 19, 23 Lay
1949, submitted lith Army on 9 June. Objects were sighted by three housewives,
Mrs. ALPE. Mrs. , JR., and irs. ‘aE respec-

sity, New Orleans, La. from beach near lontchartrain Beach, New Orleans, La.
saw a total of six objects for a period of approximately 25 minutes.
is a Lt. Colonel, Air Force Peserve, formerly an Intelligence Officer, and
was interviewed by Branch Intelligence Ufficer, lth Army, New Orleans, La. On
21 May 1949, between the hours of 2045 and 2100 CST, several unusual objects in
the air above Dallas, Texas, were observed by a number of civilian observers, The
number of objects varied from twenty to seventy-five, and were in sight for a
period from three to six secoms. Objects were moving at a high rate of speed,
flying in.a fi curve towards the east, sou S Observations were made

all of Dalles, Texas. § On 19 May 1949, thirteen enlisted men sighted an object
in the air sbove Fort Bliss, Texas. Object was in sight for approximately five
minutes. Information received through Lith Army from Hq. Antiaircraft Artillery
and Guided Iissile Center, Fort Bliss, Texas. On 30 May, two enlisted men of
Fort Bliss sighted an object in the vicinity of Fort Bliss, and this was reported
through lth Army, by Hq Antiaircraft Artillery and Guided Missile Center, Fort
Bliss ,Texas. On 5 June, Capt. Post Engineer, Wingate Ordnance
Depot, Gallup, New Mexico observed an object in the air near the Depot. Observa-
tion was made at 1950 hours, ami wes in sight for approximately five seconds. |
This object left a trail of white smoke with the persistence of apnroximately

of unidentified objects which had been sighted, in New Orleans, La,
Three separate reports were submitted on incidents which occurred
on 18, 19, and 23 May 199.

New Orleans, La. sighted one unusual aerial object
/ While sitting on the back steps of her house. Informant compared the

| silver in color, but resembled an ordinary dinner plate. The object %

: moving in a generally east to west direction. Object flew at a level
plane and made no maneuvers, but travelled in an end-over-end fashion
at a speed comparable to the Naval training plane previously mentioned,
and which informant advises she ha any times. New Orleans RIO

4. On 23 May 1949 at 189 hours, Mrs, qaayuqeeeeeeaaaayy,
New Orleans, La. observed on object at a distance of approximately
, =1/2 miles. Informant's thirteen year-old soon first noted the object
and attracted his mother's attention. The object appeared to be round,
compared to a weather balloon, grey in color, and was moving from south h, (/
3 to north-east. Object was in sight for approximately 30 seconds, and oy
informant compared the speed to that of a small observation plane. No
maneuvers were noted. Mrs. :: considered to be reliable, and not
in the habit of telling falsehoods, or exaggerating. Report furnished

miles from MRS home, in a western direction. At the
time of sighting, MRS was Watering her lawn and working
in the garden.:

object. No other craft of any type were in the sky within her
line of vision.

to be approximately one and one-half (1%) miles to two (2)
miles from the observer at an angle of elevation of approximutely

altitude, but stated that it was relatively high.

lying on his back at the beach in the Pontchartrain Beach area, New
Urleans, La. and sighted an unusual aerial object. QQMMMMPic alt.
Colonel in the air Force heserve and was formerly an Intelligence Offi-
cer. He stated he first saw only one object, but later five smaller
objects grouped around a larger one. All were bright and shiny, teing
Silver.in color. Shape was flat and spherical. wvistance from the ob-
| server could not be estimated, but objects were in sight for approxiima-
_tely 23 minutes. The weather was clear with urlimited visibility.
Object moved in a large circle over New Orleans Airvort. No sound or
‘odor was noticed, and after rotating on a horizontal axis, the object
disappeared. Re cort furnished by Fourth Army dir:ct to AMC. Copy
retained in File DO# 10.
6. On 21 May 1949, between the hours of 2045 and 2100 CST,
several persons observed unusval objects in the air above Dallas,
Texas. The weather report for this period was as follows:

Weather Bureau, Dallas, Texas: 2030 hours clear sky, visibility
15 miles, pressure 1005.l/; milbars, temperature 75°, dew point 62,
NNE wind two miles per hour, 29.69 altimeter, frequent cloud to
cloud lightning.
"213C hours, clear sky, 15 miles visibility, 100¢.4 milbars,
75° temperature, 56 dew point NINE wind at five miles ver hour,
altimeter 29.72, frequent cloud to cloud lightning SE.
"2230 hours, clear sky, 15 miles an hour wind, 1007.5 miltars,
77° temperature, dew point 52, SSE wind at ten miles per hour,
29.75 altimeter re:ding, occasional lightning in the East. "
In an interview on 25 May, | REET,
Dallas, Texas, stated substantially as follows: He is a constructim
and labor foreman, and at 2100 hours in the front yard of his home, he
happened to see a long irregular line of about 75 to 100 objects in
the sky. These objects were flat, circular in shape like a smoke ring,
were smaller than a man's fist held at arm's length. Objects appeared
to be approximately 1-1/2 miles away and were moving from east towest.
They were in sight for approximately three seconds, moving at a speed
estimated to be S00 to 1,000 miles per hour. stated that they
were very dim, just enough to see, about like a 5 watt light globe. No
maneuvers were observed and no sound or odor noted. Interrogator stated

ll. On 16 June 1:19, this office received through Gece, rourth
Army, copies of letter dated < June o$49 from Fort Eliss, reporting
another unconventional aircraft observed on 30 May 1549. Copies of
this report are also attached.
12. On 16 June 1949, this office received through Fourth Army, |
/ copies of "Guide to Investigat on = Unidentified Aerial Objects".
Object was observed at 1950 hours, 5 June 19,9, at Wingate Ordnance
Depot, Gallup, New Mexico, by Captain MMMM, Post ingineer
of the Ordnance Depot. Object was in sight far approximately five
secomis and appeared to be 50 miles away fran the observer. It appeared
to be a spheroid in shape and was described as being orange in color as
seen against the deen blue sky. The brilliance was that of a 20 watt
light bulb at 100 yards, with the object being about 1/8" in diameter
at arm's length. In this instance a trail of white smoke with the
persistence of approximately 15 minutes was observed emanating from
the object. Copy of the report furnished directly to AMC by Fourth .
\ Army, and a copy is on file at DC #10.
