Northern Lights Are Seen Here
1
For nearly six hours last night Bermudians were treated to the un-
usual sight of Northern Lights. Entries in the Hanilton Msteorological
Station'e log indicate thst the Northarn Lights -- othervise known as the
iwrora Borealis -- were visible from about 8.3o P. M. to 2 A. H. Appear-
ing to the north-northwest, they begai wdth a redeish hue and changed
throughout the evaning to a poverful white, which spread like a curtain- I
The ligh's which are seen frequently in the far North are rarely visible
this far South. When they are 'seen in these latitudes the wea ther is ex-
ceptionally fine, the Net Station said. Last night conditions here were
still and fine.
John Jefferies, branch engineer for Cabla and Wireless, Itd, in Bermuda,
said the Service was subnormal from about il p. m. to 6 d. m. As expected
he explained tne station experienced fading on tho wireless cirouits.
This was the first time iaterforence due to the aurors had been noticed .

were received, the company wireless messages received were

Capt G. M. Fletoher of the Gascony was as surprised as a lot of other

what they were," he seid this morning aboard his vessel.
This was the first time, Captain Fletcher said, that he had noticed
these lights so far south. in northern latitudes he had often seen them.
On these occasions he said they wore more spectacular, with less red but more
