I departed, alone, from Voodrum at Roanoke, Virginia for Chilhowite
AP - shortly after annset in July or August 1948, The flieht was
without marked incident until some noint botveen Wytheville and
Merion, ‘The Bellanca Gruieate wan indicating about 145, Plight

about 1500' above the ridge thatwas to my richt - rerhaps 2000° -
otherwise, without chart reference, I cannot atate altitude excent

To-my left, at about 10 o'clock, 1 saw a light. My very poor first
reaction was that tt was the headlight of a locomotive. lt was
chyious that tt waa not as it soneared to be moving 2t 2 snesd
alightly slower than mine and in my direction - atong the side of
